Student Information

Welcome Golden Gate JOAD students!

Quick Resources

Events and Scheduling

When’s the next achievement shoot/NTS lesson and where do I sign up?

All dates are posted on the homepage and signups are via Eventbrite.

I have a friend or family member who is interested in the JOAD. How can they join?

We’re happy to accommodate friends and family of existing students. Talk to Brian at practice or email David (dchan@goldengatejoad.com) to place them on the waitlist for the next beginner lesson or schedule them for an experienced archer orientation.

NTS Lesson

What does NTS stand for?

NTS stands for National Training System, devised by Kisik Lee. It involves twelve steps and is the form that the US Olympic team uses to train its archers. More information on the process is available here.

What’s involved in the NTS Lesson?

Shabbir will walk you through the twelve steps of NTS with a stretch band over the course of the two-hour lesson. In addition, you will receive a carabiner with a finger sling, a stretch band, and a laminated card to help you remember these steps after the lesson.

Achievement Shoots and Scoring

What pins have I achieved?

Deanna and Valerie maintain this list of current pins and scores.

What score do I need for my next achievement pin?

Although we recommend that you don’t look at your next pin score, the scoring matrices are available here:

Becoming a Coach

We plan to train new L1 coaches this year. The biggest reason to become a new “L1” is that in exchange for helping support the club as a volunteer, we waive all your lesson fees, meaning you come for free every week. If you are interested in becoming a new L1, please talk to one of the existing coaches.

Benefits

  • No lesson cost (Come for free)

Responsibilities

  • Must maintain Active USA SafeSport Youth Protection Training ($20/yr)
  • Must maintain full USA Archery membership ($70 annually)
  • Must join the rotation for helping to setup and perform rangemaster duties at 8:15 AM (No more than once per month)
  • Must help with one new archer lesson per year (11am-1pm, pizza lunch provided)
