Our most awesome achievement shoot in a downpour
We had our monthly achievement shoot today, despite rain. We setup the range in the heaviest rain around 7:30am and then waited. Around 8:30am the rain let off and we put up an Eazy-UP shelter to shoot under. This is what it looked like with our students shooting mostly under the shelter.
And then the wind picked up and destroyed the shelter and blew it away. So this is what we looked like because we were too stubborn to suspend the tournament because it was just a light drizzle.
Almost everyone’s scores suffered today, but a few people still managed to rise above it and shoot really well. PhoebeG earned her blue indoor pin, a score that she has come close to achieving several times before. She managed to finally do it under the worst conditions we’ve ever had. In fact she shot slightly better on the second round, after the shelter she was shooting under blew away.
AliciaS picked up her first two pins, and MaxV shot alongside KarlS. MaxV achieved his second and third pins. Both of them shot the entire day in the rain.
Not everybody had the benefit of shade, though. GoPro fan, archery coach, and our resident archery historian Gerard Hughes shot the entire time in the rain outside the shelter.
The next achievement shoot is tentatively scheduled for Saturday March 1st, 2014. Because two of our students are going to attend the Indoor National Championships in Tulare, CA, we are going to continue practicing indoor distances until then. The March 1st achievement shoot will be an indoor shoot, the last one of these for the year before we switch to the long, outdoor distances.
